手がけたのはディミトリ・リバルチェンコ(Dimitri Rybaltchenko)。実はこのデザインには、家族の物語が隠れています。

大伯父フィリップ・ルドゥーの名作を、35年後に甥が再構築

「ニュースプリングス」の原点は、1974年にフィリップ・ルドゥー(Philippe Ledoux)が手がけた「スプリングス」というデザイン。19世紀初頭の小型馬車(カレーシュ)を、金属製のサスペンションとともに精緻に描いたクラシックな一枚で、中には皇帝ナポレオン1世の息子(通称「アイグロン=小さな鷲」)が使っていた乳母車も描かれています。

それから35年後の2009年、ルドゥーの大甥にあたるディミトリ・リバルチェンコが、このデザインを現代的に再解釈。赤・白・オレンジ・バーガンディを基調にした、より鮮やかで大胆な配色にアップデートしました。大伯父から甥へと、世代を超えてバトンが渡された珍しいデザインです。

歴史と家族の物語を、一枚の中に

Today, we are pleased to introduce the beautiful Hermès Carré 90 “New Springs,” a design that beautifully reflects Hermès’ tradition of passing artistic ideas from one generation to the next.

Behind “New Springs” lies a fascinating family story—one that connects two generations of Hermès designers.

Reinterpreting a Masterpiece by His Great-Uncle 35 Years Later

The story of “New Springs” begins with “Springs,” a design created by Philippe Ledoux in 1974.

The original Carré depicts early 19th-century calèches, or small horse-drawn carriages, rendered in remarkable detail alongside their sophisticated metal suspension systems.

Among the carriages depicted is also a small carriage said to have been used by the son of Emperor Napoleon I, popularly known as L’Aiglon (“the Eaglet”).

Thirty-five years later, in 2009, Philippe Ledoux’s great-nephew, Dimitri Rybaltchenko, reinterpreted the original design from a contemporary perspective.

He gave it a fresh and more vibrant character through a bold palette centered around red, white, orange, and burgundy.

It is a particularly fascinating example of an artistic baton being passed from one generation to the next—from a great-uncle to his nephew.
