Day8でもご紹介したクリスティアーヌ・ヴォーゼル(Christiane Vauzelles)による作品。動物や馬具モチーフを繊細に描くことで知られるデザイナーです。

鞍にかけるカバーという、乗馬文化ならではのモチーフ

「Selles à housse」とは、乗馬用の鞍にかぶせる装飾カバーのこと。エルメスが馬具工房として創業したブランドであることを思い出させてくれる、まさに原点回帰のようなモチーフです。鞍・蜂・そして革ベルトにあしらわれた小さなハートといった細部まで丁寧に描き込まれており、伝統的でありながら遊び心も感じられる一枚に仕上がっています。

Today, we are pleased to introduce “Selles à Housse,” a Hermès Carré 90 first released in 1967, making it one of the long-standing designs in the history of the Hermès Carré.

About the Designer: Christiane Vauzelles

This design was created by Christiane Vauzelles, whom we also introduced on Day 8.

She is known for her delicate depictions of animals and equestrian equipment, capturing traditional subjects with remarkable detail and elegance.

A Motif Rooted in Equestrian Tradition

“Selles à Housse” refers to decorative covers placed over riding saddles.

The motif beautifully recalls Hermès’ origins as a maker of fine equestrian equipment, bringing the house’s heritage as a saddlery workshop to the forefront.

Every detail has been carefully rendered, from the saddles and bees to the tiny hearts adorning the leather straps.

Traditional in subject yet filled with subtle touches of playfulness, the design has a wonderfully distinctive character.
