「テディベア」という名前の意外な由来

このデザインの背景を知ると、もっと愛おしく感じられるかもしれません。「テディベア」という名前は、実はアメリカ大統領セオドア・ルーズベルト(愛称テディ)に由来します。狩猟中、木に縛られた熊を撃つことを拒否した彼の逸話が新聞の風刺画になり、それを見たブルックリンの菓子職人が「テディのくま」と名付けたぬいぐるみを作ったのが始まりとされています。

そうして生まれたテディベアは、子供時代の眠りを見守り、小さな悲しみや大きな喜びを分かち合う"心の友"として、世界中で愛される存在になりました。ロイック・デュビジョンはこの物語にオマージュを捧げるように、たくさんのテディベアたちを一枚の中に描き出しています。
