Day7の「トラナ」でもご紹介したアニー・フェーヴル(Annie Faivre)による作品。異国の文化や歴史を緻密な描写で表現することを得意とするデザイナーです。

粒ひとつぶに込められた、冒険者たちの物語

発表当時のシーズンブックレットには、こんな言葉が添えられています。「穀物やクローブ、木の実や種がなければ、私たちの料理はなんと味気ないことでしょう。名誉が人を輝かせるように、香辛料は料理を輝かせるのです。地平線の彼方の香辛料を求めて征服の旅に出た、かつての冒険者たちに栄光あれ。それを王侯や料理人のもとへ届けるため、彼らは嵐に立ち向かい、熱病に耐え、蛇と戦い、欠乏に耐え忍びました。彼らは英雄でした」。

食卓を彩る香辛料の、知られざる冒険譚が込められた一枚です。

【2001】Annie Faivre’s “Aux Pays des Épices” — A Tribute to the Adventurers Who Risked Everything for Spice

Today, we are pleased to introduce “Aux Pays des Épices” (In the Land of Spices), a design first released in 2001 as an homage to the spice trade of the Age of Exploration.

About the Designer: Annie Faivre

This Carré was created by Annie Faivre, whom we previously introduced on Day 7 with Torana.

Faivre is renowned for her intricate compositions inspired by distant cultures, history, and the natural world, bringing extraordinary detail and imagination to each design.

The Story of Adventurers Hidden in Every Grain

The seasonal booklet published at the time of its release tells the story beautifully:

“How bland our cooking would be without grains, cloves, nuts, and seeds. Just as honor gives brilliance to a person, spices give brilliance to food.

Glory to the adventurers of old who set out on journeys of conquest in search of spices beyond the horizon. To bring them back to kings and chefs, they faced storms, endured fevers, battled snakes, and survived scarcity.

They were heroes.”
